A Newmark space-time formulation in structural dynamics

چکیده

Abstract In this contribution, we present a space-time formulation of the Newmark integration scheme for linear damped structures under both harmonic and transient excitations. The incremental set equations motion approximations are transformed into their corresponding equivalents. dynamic system is then represented by one algebraic equation only. This projected coupled pair equations, which solved via fixed point algorithm. solution iteratively assembled enrichments, each decomposed dyadic product spatial temporal enrichment vectors. evolution vectors investigated during convergence interpreted comparing them to modes vibration. new method demonstrated means four numerical examples, presenting not only excellent behavior efficiency but also limits proposed approach.

A Stable Marching-on-in-time Scheme for Wire Scatterers Using a Newmark-beta Formulation

The aim of this work is to increase the instability of the marching-on-in-time (MOT) method that is used in the analysis of wide-band electromagnetic pulse scattering from structures made of thin wires. The stability problem has been identified with the advent of the MOT method in 1991, and although several improvements have been suggested to overcome this difficulty no exact solution has been ...

Explicit Newmark/Verlet algorithm for Time Integration of the Rotational Dynamics of Rigid Bodies

We consider the problem of integration of the initial value problem of the rotational rigid body dynamics. We are motivated by a very practical problem: time integration of the equations of motion of drill bits as they cut through rock. The drill bit geometry is fully three-dimensional, as is the surface of the rock to be cut, and the force laws of cutting, scraping, impacts, and persistent con...

Minimal Coordinate Formulation of Contact Dynamics in Operational Space

In recent years, complementarity techniques have been developed for modeling non-smooth contact and collision dynamics problems for multi-link robotic systems. In this approach, a linear complementarity problem (LCP) is set up using 6n non-minimal coordinates for a system with n links together with all the unilateral constraints and inter-link bilateral constraints on the system. In this paper,...

Phase Space Formulation of Population Dynamics in Ecology

A phase space theory for population dynamics in Ecology is presented. This theory applies for a certain class of dynamical systems, that will be calledM-systems, for which a conserved quantity, the M-function, can be defined in phase space. ThisM-function is the generator of time displacements and contains all the dynamical information of the system. In this sense the M-function plays the role ...

A space-time finite element formulation for fluid-structure interaction

We present a space-time finite element formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations which is stabilized via the Galerkin/least-squares approach. The variational equation is based on the time discontinuous Galerkin method and is written in terms of the physical entropy variables over the moving and deforming space-time slabs. The formulation thus becomes analogous to the classical arbitrary Lagran...
